Fluid
Dex · Defi

Fluid is Instadapp's unification of lending and exchange into one liquidity layer, and the venue where the most capital-efficient borrowing onchain actually lives: vaults that lend to loan-to-values the older markets never offered, priced and settled against liquidity a DEX is using at the same time.

It gets away with that through mechanics, not bravado. Collateral and debt in Fluid can themselves be trading liquidity, so a position earns from the market it is exposed to, and liquidations work through ticks: instead of seizing a whole position at a penalty, the system trims exactly the slice that crossed the line, which is why its liquidation penalties are among the smallest in DeFi and why the loan-to-values can sit as high as they do. Between your interactions the position keeps moving on its own, interest accruing against both legs block by block.

That efficiency is the danger. A vault run near its limit has almost no distance between the loan-to-value you hold and the one that gets trimmed, the debt grows while you are not looking, the collateral reprices with the market, and a liquidation that costs little still happens without asking you. Fluid rewards the tightly run position more than any market onchain, and it punishes the untended one on the same schedule.

Every number Fluid keeps about a vault is a step in a plug: the price of each leg, the loan-to-value the position holds and the one it gets liquidated at, the rates on collateral and debt, the liquidity available to borrow, the size of either side. Collateral moves, borrows, and repayments run when a condition is met rather than when a person is awake.

Debt trimmed back the moment the ratio drifts toward the line instead of after it crosses. Collateral reinforced from an idle balance while the penalty is still hypothetical. A borrow sized up when liquidity and rates say it is cheap, and sized down when they stop saying it.

Running close to the limit is the entire point of Fluid, and the positions that hold that line are held there by rule, block after block, at hours no person keeps.
