Convex is the protocol that turned Curve's boost math into public infrastructure: one of the largest holders of voting power in the Curve ecosystem since 2021, the venue where a majority of Curve liquidity actually stakes, and the reason an ordinary depositor earns the maximum boosted rate without locking a single CRV of their own.

The mechanism is collective and mechanical. Convex locks CRV permanently, pools the boost that lock earns, and passes it to every LP token staked through it, paying rewards in CRV and CVX on top of what the pool already pays. cvxCRV gives the locked position itself a liquid form that stakes for a share of platform revenue. Nothing about the payout is discretionary: reward rates are set by contracts, streamed per second, and readable by anyone, which is why billions in Curve liquidity has routed through it for years.

Streamed is not the same as received, and that is where the work lives. Rewards accrue every block but sit unclaimed until someone pays the gas, and the claim you postpone through three gas spikes quietly stops compounding. The rate on a pool decays as gauge votes move elsewhere, so the pool that led last month can be mid-pack when you next check. A cvxCRV stake keeps earning while its reward mix drifts. None of it fails loudly; it just underperforms the person who never looks away.

Every number Convex keeps about a position is a step in a plug: the staked balance in every reward pool, the rate each pool is paying this second, the exact rewards claimable right now, the tokens they arrive in. Deposits, stakes, withdrawals, and claims run when a condition is met rather than when a person is awake. A plug compounds a position the way the contracts stream it: continuously, by rule.

Rewards claimed the moment they outweigh the gas to collect them, and never before. A stake unwound when its rate decays below the alternative and redeployed in the same breath. Idle LP tokens staked the block they land instead of the week they are remembered. A cvxCRV position that compounds on a schedule no one has to keep.

The boost was always automatic; that was the whole point of Convex. The positions that outperform there extend the same principle one level up, and next to them a manually claimed position is just yield leaking on a timer.
