Moonwell is the lending market that grew up on Base: a pool for each asset where deposits earn from the block they land and borrowers draw against what they have supplied, run by its community and open to any wallet since the chain launched.
It keeps the model that made onchain lending legible. Supplying an asset mints mTokens, a receipt whose exchange rate only rises as borrowers pay interest, so a deposit grows without a single claim. Each market publishes its rate curve, its collateral factor, and its supply and borrow caps, and one comptroller values every account across every market it has entered at the same oracle price. A position is the sum of its markets, never a set of disconnected bets.
That shared account is also where the risk lives. A borrow taken against one asset is backed by everything entered as collateral, so a drop in any of them tightens all of it at once. The rate that climbs steeply once a market crosses its kink. The collateral factor governance trims while the position sleeps. The rewards accruing that nobody remembers to claim. Liquidation reads the account, not the intention behind it.
Every number Moonwell keeps is a step in a plug: each market's exchange rate and the rates on both sides of it, the cash it can still lend, an account's balance and borrow in every market, and the liquidity or shortfall the comptroller computes. Minting, redeeming, borrowing, repaying, entering and exiting markets, and claiming rewards run when a condition is met rather than when someone happens to be watching.
Debt repaid the moment the borrow rate crosses a line. Collateral topped up before the account's liquidity runs out, not after. Rewards claimed and supplied back on a cadence instead of a memory. A loop unwound in order the instant the market says it should be.
The accounts that last on a lending market are the ones that never depended on someone being awake, and on Base that has never been easier to arrange.
