Tessera is Wintermute's on-chain trading desk: one contract on Base where a professional market maker quotes majors, euros, agent tokens and tokenized equities against USDC, and fills whoever takes the quote at exactly the price it posted.

There is no pool behind the price. The market maker writes its quote into the venue's engine every block, from the same books it runs everywhere else, and the venue settles each swap out of the desk's own inventory. The spread is a professional's spread, tight and in size, and the quote moves when the market does rather than when someone trades against a curve.

A price that lives one block at a time is a price a person cannot hold. The swap that waited for a better fill while the quote had already moved twice. The rebalance into cbBTC that went through a thin pool because the desk quoting it tighter was not the venue anyone checked. The exit from a tokenized equity that missed the hours the desk was quoting it.

The venue's own quote is read at the moment a plug runs, so a swap on Tessera fills at the price the market maker posted that block, bounded by the floor or ceiling the quote set, and the amount it delivers flows into the next step of the same run. It runs when a condition is met rather than when someone is at the keyboard.

A treasury rotated into bitcoin the block a level is crossed. Euros bought for dollars at a desk's spread on a schedule. A position in an agent token or an equity exited exactly when the trigger fires, with the proceeds already moving.

The flow that trades against a market maker's live quote on Base is already routed this way, because the best price on the chain is the one posted this block, not the one remembered from the last.
