LayerZero is the messaging layer much of the industry's tokens move across chains on. An application deploys a contract on each chain it lives on, names its peers on the others, and LayerZero's endpoints carry its messages between them, verified by the independent networks the application itself chooses. Its Omnichain Fungible Token standard turns that into a token that is the same asset everywhere: sending one burns or locks it on the way out and mints or releases it from its peer on the way in, so what arrives is the token itself, not a wrapped promise of it.

On Base that is how USDe and sUSDe, ZRO, and a long tail of Base-born tokens reach other chains, each OFT carrying exactly its own token, to exactly the chains it has peers on, at a fee the OFT quotes per message in ether.

The friction is all timing. The fee moves with gas on both ends, the amount that arrives can differ from the amount sent where an OFT charges its own fee, and the moment a balance is needed on another chain rarely lines up with the moment someone is watching. Doing it by hand means quoting, padding the fee, and signing whenever a person happens to look.

In a plug the OFT quotes the exact transfer and message the send encodes, in the same transaction: the amount the recipient receives becomes the send's minimum and the quoted fee is exactly what is paid, so it delivers what was quoted or does not run. A transfer can wait for the fee to fall under a share of the amount moved, fire the moment a balance lands, or sweep proceeds to the chain where they are spent.

Treasuries rebalanced across chains on a schedule. Proceeds bridged the block they settle. Cross-chain transfers that never overpay a padded fee and never wait on a person to press send.
