Beefy is the multichain yield optimizer that made auto-compounding a commodity: hundreds of vaults on every major network, each one a single deposit that harvests a farm's rewards, sells them back into the deposited token, and reinvests the proceeds, so a position grows without its holder ever claiming a reward by hand.
The mechanism is deliberately simple. A vault takes one token, its want, and hands its strategy everything deposited; the strategy farms it in a liquidity gauge, a lending market, or a staking pool, and every harvest folds the rewards back into more of the same want. Depositors hold the vault's own share token, and the price per full share is nothing but the vault's total holdings over its share supply. It only ever ratchets up as harvests land, which is the whole return, readable on chain at any moment.
What Beefy automates is the farm; what it leaves to the holder is everything around it. A vault's strategy can be retired and paused, and the deposit that was compounding last month now sits idle in an end-of-life vault. The farm behind one vault cools while another on the same token pays twice as much. The want a vault takes is often a liquidity position that has to be built before it can be deposited and unwound after it is withdrawn. Every one of those moves waits on someone noticing.
Every number a Beefy vault keeps is a step in a plug: the price per full share, the want the vault manages, the want it takes, and whether its strategy still accepts deposits. Deposits and withdrawals run when a condition is met rather than when a person is awake, and the shares a deposit mints or the want a withdrawal pays out flow straight into the next step of the same run.
Freshly built liquidity deposited the block it is minted. A position moved out of a vault the moment its strategy pauses, and into the one paying more on the same token. Profit taken when the price per full share crosses a mark, and the proceeds swapped, bridged, or repaid in the same breath.
Beefy already compounds without being asked. The holders who get the most from it extend that to everything the vault does not do for them, and a position that waits for its owner to notice a retired strategy is compounding nothing at all.
